Task List View

Use Nifty's List view to manage your tasks flexibly by customizing, grouping, filtering, sorting, and performing bulk actions.

Written by Team

List View is the go-to view for at-scale work, as it allows you to view and edit a high volume of tasks at once. Some of what makes List view popular is:

  • Scannability — everything is a single row, so you can see task name, assignee, due date, status, and priority at a glance without clicking into each item.

  • Sorting & filtering — because it's essentially a table, you can sort by due date, group by assignee, or filter by status instantly.

  • Density — it fits far more tasks on screen than card-based Kanban and Swimlane views.

  • Familiarity — it mirrors spreadsheets and to-do lists, making it accessible to all levels of technical familiarity.

  • Bulk actions — easy to multi-select rows and batch-update (reassign, reschedule, mark complete).

The Basics of List View

You can access your List view by clicking on the List option via the selector at the top of your Tasks screen.

Filtering & Searching Tasks

Use the filter bar to filter your tasks by assignees, due dates, list, tags, user tags, as well as custom fields. Additionally, you can use the search function in the filter bar to find the exact task that you're looking for.

Showing Tasks

Select if you want to show completed and archived tasks as well as subtasks in your tasks screen.

Grouping Tasks

Group by is the highest level of organization within your task board. By default, your List View groups tasks by their List, whereas Kanban defaults to grouping tasks by Status.

You can select what you want your task board to be grouped by with the selector. This grouping will determine the way tasks are clustered on the board.

Sorting Tasks

Sorting is the way tasks are organized within the groupings in list view. When no sorting is enabled, tasks can be dragged-and-dropped to be reordered within the grouping. If you are unable to drag-and-drop tasks within a grouping, check to see if there is a column sort enabled.

To sort tasks, click on the column header of the entity you wish to sort by. The first click will sort the content in ascending order (arrow pointing up), the second click will sort in descending order (arrow pointing down) and the third click will remove the sorting.

Managing List View Columns

You can add, remove, and rearrange the columns in List view to configure the information shown into your ideal layout.

To edit the column order, either select the dial button next to the task view selector in List view, or select the columns icon at the far right of your task board.

In the Columns popup, you can enable or disable the fields that you wish to show as columns in your List view, as well as search for specific fields.

Fields are grouped into three sections (be sure to scroll down in the popup to see all of your options):

  • Shown - These are the fields currently shown in order of your List view (top of this popup being the furthest left column on your board).

  • Available (Standard) - These are native Nifty fields which can be added into your columns but are currently disabled. Once enabled, fields from here will be moved to the Shown section.

  • Available (Custom) - These are custom task fields that have been enabled in this project but are currently disabled as columns. Once enabled, fields from here will be moved to the Shown section. You can add existing fields or create new custom fields from here as well.

Rearranging Columns

Once you've selected the fields that you want to show as columns, you can drag and drop them to set the exact order you'd like them to appear (top of this list being the furthest left column on your board).

Save changes to set them live.

Your task columns will now be shown in your selected order!

Saving and Sharing your List Configuration

The layout you've just created is specific to you, as every collaborator as the opportunity to customize Nifty to their liking. That said, you can share this view, pin it, and even make it default for other project collaborators to ensure everyone sees the same information and is on the same page.
