Moving Tasks across Lists, Statuses, and Projects

Moving tasks individually or in bulk within or across projects

Written by Team

There are a variety of ways and reasons to move tasks to keep your workflow seamlessly within or across projects. Moving tasks allows you to update the task's status (where it sits in its lifecycle) or its list (where it exists in the context of the project). You can even relocate tasks across projects when your workflow requires it.

Some common ways to move tasks are:

  • Dragging and dropping task cards in Kanban or Swimlane view to update the staus

  • Dragging and dropping tasks in List view to update a task's list

  • Changing a status or list of a task via the respective dropdown in the list view column

That said, there are other ways and places to move tasks throughout Nifty!

Moving a Task while open

You can update a task's status or list from inside of an open task by updating the status (at the top of the task next to the ID) or the list (found in-line with Assignees and Tags).

Moving Tasks Across Projects

A task can be relocated to another project via the Move to Project option found within the task's option menu. Once selected, you'll be prompted to choose the project, then the status and list that the task should be moved to within it.

Moving Tasks in bulk

Nifty offer bulk task moving options to relocate all of the tasks within a status or a list, as well as the ability to move the entire list.

Bulk moving Tasks within a Status or List

When your task board is Grouped by: List (default for List view) or Grouped by: Status (default for Kanban view) you will see the Move Tasks options via the list or status menu dots.

This allows you to relocate the tasks from this list or status, but does not relocate the actual list or status itself.

Relocating a List and its Tasks across Projects

To relocate the entire list and the tasks within it, you can use the Move to another project option from the list menu options.
