Whether you're looking to track time vs estimates or manage resources, time tracking allows you to view how long team members are working on specific tasks within and across your projects.

This article will focus on tracking time with Nifty's built in Time Tracker. If you're a Harvest user, check out our Harvest Time Tracking integration!

Who can track time?

Members of your team (Owner, Admin, Team Members) can track time. Additionally, time tracking parameters can be controlled for Custom Roles.

Guests cannot track time or see the amount of time tracked within a project.

Tracking Time

When opening a task, you will see a Start Timer button in the top right of the flyout. Your time will start being tracked when you hit the start button, and the time tracking widget will appear in the bottom left corner of Nifty.

Additionally, you can track time from My Work and List view by simply hovering over a task name and clicking on the Start Timer button instead of manually opening a task.

To stop tracking a task, you must do one of the following:
• Hit the Stop button on the time widget in your sidebar
• Hit the Stop button on the time widget in the task
• Start tracking time on a new task

Editing Tracked Time

The pencil icon on either the task or your sidebar tracking widget will allow you to edit the amount of time logged on that task. Time must be inputted in the following format:

00:00:00
(hours):(minutes):(seconds)

Be sure to add the " : " in between the hours, minutes, and seconds if you delete them while editing a task duration. Pressing the Stop icon afterwards will record this time entry for the Task and Project.

If you wish to edit the duration of a task that you've already logged, keep reading!

Manually Adding Time Logs

Use Add Manual Time if you're looking to backdate when this task was tracked. You will find this feature in the option dots of a task.

Here you will be asked to manually input the amount of hours logged on the task as well as the start date and time for the tracking. Be sure to enter time in the hh:mm format.

Manually inputted time will have a (manual) note indicated in the time logs.

(Reporting) Referencing Tracked Time on Projects and User Time Logs

Task Time Logs

Time tracked on a task can be seen by clicking on the time tracking widget. Here we can see what users logged time on this task, and if any logs have been edited. Note that you can edit your previous logs on this task here.

User Time Logs

Users can only see time logged in projects they're invited to.

Your and other user's individual time logs can be accessed through their profiles. One way to quickly launch user profiles is via the Workloads screen.

Project Time Logs

You can filter and download the time log of a specific project either through the option dot menu (on hover) in the sidebar or from the Dashboard Time Tracking widget.

All-Project Time Logs

If you wish to download a report to show the total amount of time tracked on every active project within your Workspace, you can do so by downloading the Project Progress Report via Overviews.
